CLOSING ON A NEW START
Today I made the call to the Seoul office of Cebu Pacific air to change my ticket. Things did not go quite as smoothly as I had hoped. I was nicely surprised to find that there were operators who speak English there. That is good, but unlike what is printed on my ticket, which claims that changes to it cost 20,000 KRW, it turns out that to change it will cost me a whopping 150,000 KRW, or about $109. On top of this, I cannot change the destination from Cebu to Manila, meaning I have to fly to Cebu anyway and then get another flight to Manila. On the upside, though, the flight from Cebu to Manila, because it will be very early morning, will be less than $30.
Regardless, this puts a serious dent in my plans. I can still do it, and I will certainly try, but I will come out on the other side with quite a bit less money than planned, unless things pick up business wise before I go. The plan is to go next week, so that doesn't leave much opportunity for generating income. Then again, stranger things have happened on this adventure.
Tomorrow looks to be hectic. I have never liked trains here, but tomorrow I will have to ride one. On top of that, I will be trekking off alone since Jerry is working. I have to go to the Seoul office to pay for my ticket in person. Riding the train is hard enough with Jerry navigating, so alone may not turn out so well. The operator on the phone told me what train to take and where to get off, so I hope I will be okay.
After that, things will relax a bit before I head out. On the weekend, me and my clients will go in his new car, just bought today, to Shilla, the ancient capital of Korea. Apparently it is similar to Kyoto in Japan, which we visited last week, in that the buildings are still ancient style and the people dress old style to this day. We also plan to see the eastern sea and a few other select locations. He wants me to see more of the real Korea.
When I return from that trip, it will be time to pack and leave in preparation for an all night journey. The only flight out of here to the Philippines is every night at 10:00 PM. It will arrive there, accounting for one hour time difference, at 4:00 AM or so. After that I will try to catch a 6:30 AM flight from Cebu to Manila and then take a bus or something to the town where my friend is. It's going to be busy. I sincerely hope that I don't end up a beggar by the end of what will be a very busy week. In fact, I hope to get there and spend a few days just relaxing.
