A VERY DIFFERENT JAPAN
Well, day one in Osaka, Japan is just about over and I am relaxing in an awesome room with an incredible night view at the Hyatt Regency hotel. There is some kind of free WIFI in here so I can send email and write this post. This room even has a huge high def TV in it. So far I am really enjoying this new adventure.
Japan is a very different place from what I remember. Of course, the last time I was here was seven years ago and that was in Tokyo. Still I notice the people are taller and look a lot more western. They have colored hair, I mean almost everyone, and colored eyes and wear strange fashions. The city, surprisingly, looks very similar to parts of Seoul. That might be the other way around though. The Dow town was very alive even in the early evening, but I remember passing by some British sounding guy as we walked around, and he was telling his friends, "This place is awesome at night." It almost makes me want to go back.
Earlier today we saw the historic Osaka castle and learned about Hideyoshi Toyotomi, the subject of many samurai films and anime. The castle was amazing with large dragons and other designs done in 99% pure gold. There were cool screens inside with documentary videos on the history of the place. I am guessing those weren't there when the place was built.
We also experienced some good food today. At lunch we had a bento type set and udon. At dinner we had sushi of many varieties, tempura and even better udon. I can't even begin to imagine what great things are in store for me tomorrow. I thought at first I wouldn't enjoy this trip, but it is turning out to be quite the adventure!
